before the issue of the certificate would retain their

Chinese nationality“.

It seems to us not unreasonable to hold that

the position of children of denationalised Chinese born

before the denationalisation of the father is governed

by Article 10 (11) of the new law, which provides that

a Chinese citizen "whose father is an alien and has

recognised him (or her) as his child" phall lose his

(or her Chinese nationality, subject however to the

application of this provision being confined to children

who have not attained their majority according to Chinese

law. The word "allon" in Article 10 (11) can hardly be

interpreted in the restricted sense of an alien by birth since the child of an alien (by birth) father could not (unless of course the father was unknown) porsese Chinose

Nationality under Article 1 and therefore could not lose

it under Article 10. If therefore Article 10 (11) is to

have my meaning it would seem that the words "is an

alion"
